Barefoot and Lazy
print page

Jambiani beach is a long peaceful stretch of white sand and crystal clear turquoise water surrounded by palm trees. But more striking than that is the friendly people of the village Jambiani, that spend a big part of their life on the beach, fishing, collecting seaweed, playing football. The beach is used as a road for bicycles and cows adding a value to your beach experience that is hard to find elsewhere in the world. This is by far the best spot in Zanzibar if wanting to combine being barefoot and lazy with an experience of the local life on the island.

The range of water activities is amazing. Diving is extraordinary in the clear water with astonishing visibility. Snorkelling is easy accessible and dolphins are usually hanging around allowing you to have a swim with them. There is wind surfing, kite surfing, hoby cats, dhow sails. And in the evening there are lots of lovely beach restaurants for various budgets allowing you to enjoy the evening breeze as you listen to the waves coming in. Seafood is the name of the game here. Other dishes are available if you’re averse, but the fish and shellfish are lovely and fresh.

Jambiani is easy accessible from Stone Town, one hour with taxi and 1,5 -2,5 hours with the local dala dala. Please ask us for advice or check out our “how to get there” page.
